Rizzo Custom Creations
My name is Theresa Rizzo
I was born a Michigander, but the lure of mountains brought me home to Colorado decades ago. Inspired by nature’s majesty, I use rocks and stones scavenged during hikes with my husband and rescued from fabricators’ dumpsters, and lovingly enhance them with crystals and other natural items to create powerful, soulful works of art. Using Nature’s resources brings both physical and emotional depth to my stone mosaics.
I have no formal art background or training, yet mosaics fascinated me. Unfortunately, I lacked the hand strength to use crimpers, but I knew how to use a tile saw, so I improvised and developed my own process that evolved into my signature style.
My technique is unique and meticulous: I use a wet tile saw to cut, shape, and fit together materials as if creating a jigsaw puzzle, then carve and sculpt the pieces to give them more detail before inlaying them or gluing and grouting them onto a stone background or cement board. I finish them off with minerals, crystals, and gems to share their beautiful color and energy and to further accentuate the three-dimensional portrayal.
Whether it's commissioned wall art, built-in kitchen backsplashes, or mountainscapes, for me, it’s all about the fun of creating unique, meaningful art that brings joy to others.
Hope to see you at the Aspen Emporium!
